When you are apart, it can be tempting to make every message about how much you miss each other. A letter can also invite your person into the ordinary parts of your day: what you saw, what made you laugh, and when you wished they were beside you.
Let them into one part of your day
Choose a moment instead of giving a full report. Describe the bakery you passed, the song that played on the bus, or the dinner you tried to cook. Tell them which detail reminded you of them.
“The café near my place played our road-trip song this morning. For a minute I could almost hear you singing the wrong words. I wish you’d been across the table.”
Write in your own voice. If your relationship is playful, your letter can be playful too. You do not need to make distance sound beautiful when it feels difficult.
Give a shared memory a little space
Pick one photograph and explain what the picture leaves out. What happened just before it? What did you talk about on the way home? A familiar photo can feel new when you add the story behind it.
A music link can work the same way. Tell them why you chose that song instead of leaving them to guess. In Bloomletter’s free version, a photo and a music link can sit alongside your words.
Suggest something small to look forward to
A future plan does not have to be a booked flight or a promise about where you will live. You could suggest cooking the same dinner, watching a film together, or taking each other on a short video walk.
- “When we next talk, I want to hear about…”
- “One thing I’d love us to do together is…”
- “When I see you again, the first ordinary thing I want to do is…”
Keep the invitation open. A letter is a gift, not a demand for an immediate reply.
Send it in a way that feels comfortable
Preview your letter and check every card before sharing. Send its link directly to your person. Anyone who receives a working shared link may be able to open it, so avoid adding details you would not want forwarded.
You can save a local draft while you work. Sign in when you are ready to save it to your account and use the studio’s sharing options.
Keep the words. Make them yours.
Write something personal for someone you care about.
